Crown surplus recovers somewhat

The ten-month Crown accounts to 30 April 2008 issued by Treasury show a recovery in the government surplus for the current fiscal year.
The net operating balance rose from $1.1 billion as at March, to $3.1 billion in the year to April 2008. At the same time in 2007, the operating balance was $6.8 billion
The OBEGAL rose from $4.6 billion to $6.0 billion over this same period, although down from the $7.0 billion a year ago.
Tax collected on interest earned for this ten month period was $2.2 billion, up +23% from the same period a year ago, and equivalent to the full twelve month tax collections in 2007.
