  1. Mark Hubbard Says:

Hey, I’ve got enthusiasm Bernard ;)

And wouldn’t mind getting my teeth stuck into a few politicians.

    No?

    Ah well.

  2. goNZ Says:

will they need farming experience ?
I think Mr Crafar is possibly looking for a job and they need enthusiasm etc !!

  3. Roger Thompson Says:

I’ll bring enough gummy bears and sheer stupidity for everyone in the office . And I promise to not use the coffee teaspoons for de-waxing my ears ……….. ever again .

No ? Bugger ………… Where’s all that wax , may as well make some candles .

  4. W. Kunz Says:

I think Paul Henry has all the qualification.

But then: This journalist would have a long term view about the changing shape and role of media needs to be intelligent, fair, politically independent, modest, rubbish- free and not childish.
Hmm – I think better not.

Why not Bill E. or John K. in a few months time ?

  5. Harriet Says:

Chap that worked for me eons ago, Andrew Willink, started up a site in Oz, Cannex, and always joked that ‘ one day I’d work for him’. This could be as close as I get..!!!

  6. Chris_J Says:

Bernard, is that your job advertised?

Retiring? Overworked? Got the boot? Or maybe you’ve taken your own advise and getting the hell out of NZ?

Could you also possibly make it a requirement that the new finance editor DOESN’T believe that property investors are the devil incarnate.

    …probably to much to ask.

goNZ’s got a point, Allan Crafar and Bernard would get on like a house on fire!

  7. Roger Thompson Says:

Crikey Chris_J : And there was me thinking that I’d be dead last of anybody on planet earth to get this job . But you have cracked it . Well done old son ………… Want to light a candle to celebrate ?

  8. jh Says:

I think a lot of people would be embarrassed to admit that they don’t understand a lot of what is being written about here (especially the jargon around the money markets).

  9. jimmy Says:

    whats the pay?

  10. Wally Says:

You are so right jh…I hear JK and BE have had to buy copies of economics 101 for dummies as a result of trying to follow the threads on this site…..

  11. We are Stuffed Says:

Do you get a gold watch Bernard…..Don’t accept cash!

  12. President of Property Says:

jeepers… i am not self critical enough for this position, as although it was not a requirement for Bernard Hickey – it should have been…

any chance of getting lots of pay without understanding the job or getting results like Alan Bollard – i could go for that one…

or if you ever want a property expert to point you in the right direction before opening your mouth…

  13. Mark Hubbard Says:

By the way Bernard I don’t always agree with the analysis or viewpoint taken by this blog, but interest.co.nz has at least two staff currently, you and Alex, now you’re looking at these two positions, so, despite all else, kudos to you. Creating a viable internet based information service is no mean feat, and you’re obviously succeeding.

    Needs to be said.

    /nice Mark off

    /ranter back on

  14. andy hamilton Says:

Mark, I am afraid you have misunderstood – Bernard and Alex are leaving as they got a better offer (to set up a dairy farm), thats why the 2 jobs are being advertised……..

  15. Bernard Hickey Says:

    Chris J
Lovely to hear from you and sorry to disappoint you, but we’re still here. I’m a big fan of NZ. Would love to improve it. Having a good go. Just need some help for the crusade…;)

    Andy
Heh. You are right about one thing. Dairy farming would have been a more lucrative option, but not quite as much fun. Would you like one of these jobs? Sort of not kidding. Many professional blogs find their best bloggers from within their commenting community.

To all readers – Who do you think we should employ from our commenters?

    cheers
    Bernard

  16. Mark Hubbard Says:

Well, for balance Bernard, find an Austrian … there are some great Austrian-centric Kiwi bloggers, for example, Peter Cresswell’s NotPC, and Paul Walker’s Anti-Dismal.

It would be great to have some balance, vis a vis, a small State point of view, given I thought before this site Infometrics would have provided that, but they quite obviously are just more promoters of the Big State.

  17. andy hamilton Says:

Bernard, I would love to apply – however I live in Nelson so attending those four times a day coffee breaks (I mean editorial meetings) would be difficult.

I always hankered after a second career as an esteemed member of the fourth estate.

  18. SORE-LOSER.. Says:

As opposed to a “REAL” ESTATE career Andy.

  19. Roger Thompson Says:

Bernard : Answer to your prayers : Wally !

  20. SORE-LOSER.. Says:

A Balanced view point would be nice…Bernard…

A chip on each shoulder so to speak, or a different perspective.

Hire two of opposing Opposition Factions.

    For a start..

    One Male, one Female.

    One Labour-ious, with GREEN tendencies.

One National-ised with an overseas Travel bent, but can ACT.

    One pro-work.

    One a pro.

    One for business.

    One for exporting business.

    One Green Shoots.

    One just Green.

    One With experience.

    One an ex MP.

One a Thinker, not a doer.

One a Thinker, not a doer.

    One a Critic.

One a fastidious back-peddlar with narcissistic tendencies towards self flagellation.

    One a Spender.

    One a Non-politician.

    One a loser.

    One not a Politician.

    One a Finance whizz.

    One an ex-Banker.

    One a Forward Planner.

One who didn’t see the GREATER DEPRESSION coming from Parliament.

    One insolvent.

    One not a New Zealander.

    One heartless.

One who takes care of the sick, injured, poor, birds, cats dogs, calves, their bank balance, who is trying to make sense of it all.

A resume search on all these characteristics will be beneficial to those on a BENEFIT.

A lot of fine people to chose from.

    However,

I suggest either a Dreadlocked retiree or a ” retiring, shy, smack” addict for one or the other.

I think a MOB Member or a NUN would be a nice balance for the other.

    Having trouble deciding.

This may help in your QUEST.

  21. garkenro Says:

Maybe Andyh/andrewj and Wally could job share – best of all three worlds…..

  22. Matt S Says:

I would apply, but I’d have to start being politically correct and balanced all over again .. I think I much prefer my new one sided cynical approach to life.

  23. neil c Says:

Agreed MAtt S. I believe the job description says “unwavering belief in orthodox monetarism essential”, otherwise Iain P would bolt in.

  24. alex Says:

How about somebody who has run his own business ,not salaried, someone who truly has put their money where their mouth is?

  25. NEWBY. Says:

Alex, Now there is a suggestion

    It got me THINKING.

Anyone who has worked in his own business, put his own income on the line and walked away with a substantial profit would understand what is required from all sides, monetarily.

For instance, All our leaders in Parliament have done just that, running this country, so my Apologies, select one of em Bernard and make em an offer they cannot refuse.

However, I doubt you could afford an MP, retired or not. A big drop in income and benefits.

Majority of em never earnt a significant bean … honestly, in a prior business created by their own position in the RAT-RACE, so chose someone who has been a carter or something.

(No Honestly, you can check. their credentials and resume first.).

Though some apparently learn’t quickly from others on their O.E.

But today, boy can some fill out an expenses form, so they should be OK with working
the systems you have put in place.

Don’t know what hours you work, but they do some of their best work under urgency, when you can get them there, so that will not phase em.

A bit of Shift work, A half hour here and there will suffice. Give em long holidays.

Also, pick someone who has already got an office, they could lease back to you.

Might not achieve your goals, but that is par for the “field” in business these days, when you put your own money on the line…or is that page. Honestly, it can pay if you set up offshore as well.

Could end up with a holiday home, maybe Samoa for your retirement if you work it right.

Pay everyone else and at the end collect what’s left…or is that WHAT is maybe LEFT in these precarious times.

Must be a Capital Gain in there somewhere though.

Remember “jobs for the boys”… Cos I seem to think that is the Objective once you have SERVED.

You must do your bit if you want to get knighted, or a high POST somewhere.

By the way BERNARD, welcome to the CLUB of on-line Businesses or for that matter any Business.

PS…If it fails, could always NATIONALISE it.
