Kiwibank chief economist Jarrod Kerr charts New Zealand’s confirmed Covid-19 cases by date of announcement, region, gender and age bracket and finds an all-too familiar trajectory

By Jarrod Kerr*

I’ve charted New Zealand’s confirmed Covid-19 cases by date of announcement, region, gender and age bracket.

New Zealand’s cases are following an all-too familiar trajectory seen offshore. Efforts to ‘flatten the curve’ are clearly warranted.

To date, we have 18 cases of people aged 60 and older, with four people in their 70s.

More males have been infected, with 40 of the 61 cases with gender lodged.

Across the cities and regions, Auckland has 24 cases, Wellington 8, Waikato 7, Dunedin/Otago 5, Taranaki 4, Canterbury 3, with 1-2 cases emerging across the rest of the country.

*Jarrod Kerr is Kiwibank's chief economist.

Very bad timing for "a routine checkup" would definitely fall in the "non-essential travel" category

if you havent seen a doctor for 6 months they wont give you a repeat prescription, maybe where you are you dont need a prescription but down here on planet earth we do.

Hopefully some commonsense. If it’s a routine medicine, then a phone consultation should work. If more serious than that then it becomes an essential consultation which medical centres are staying open for. Medical centres should be able to screen appointments being made so that non essentials don’t clutter things up.

Had a call this morning from my wifes hairdresser, advising me that for the forseeable future they won't be entertaining clients.
I don't know who is going to be in the worst mood..me for having to tell her and having to put up with the fallout
or her for not being able to look her best for me.

This is great analysis, can we get any statistics on the actual COVID-19 deaths? as that may be more telling as to who is at the highest risk so adequate precautions can be made

I'm aware the elderly are particularly susceptible and most are self isolating, but it would be interesting to see if there are any other subsets of the population that have had disproportionately high mortality rates
