Economic weather report: New Zealanders hoarding more cash

Posted in News

Bernard Hickey delivers an Economic Weather Report in association with ASB, including a look at a chart showing New Zealanders appear to be using and/or hoarding more cash in the last six months. This hoarding has consistently grown and is nearly at the levels seen in the last days of 1999.

I hope the peasants out

I hope the peasants out there know they about to face a wave of pink rorts in this batty make work project. Everything from over estimating the batts needed and undersupplying said number, to not fitting them properly or not at all, to fitting thinner batts than are paid for. My gawd what a circus this will be. Is anyone looking out for the elderly who are about to be taken to the cleaners on this? Who do they call to check the work is done properly or done at all?

You've been stung by this

You've been stung by this little number in the past ,haven't you Wally?! Too much specific knowledge there for that not to be the case. Spacemakers or Notre 9?

Cheers Janet, no I've not

Cheers Janet, no I've not been done over and I just had a look at one of the big trade/retail firms offering the deals. They seem to be taking the whole process under control. Just hope they send out people to inspect the work. Elderly friends said they might get the job done and it had me thinking.

My guess would be the

My guess would be the self employed offering lower hourly rates for cash payment, cutting the tax man out of the loop, seemingly win, win for the financially illiterate with no concept of the precarious situation they are putting them and their nation into, atleast while we continue to rent all but 3% of our money supply off foreign lenders. Increasing black economy and lack of trust in anything but tangible cash.
