ASB selling 5 Auckland buildings that house branches to 'focus on core banking business'
ASB's Greenwood's Corner branch.

ASB is selling five of the 16 buildings it owns that house bank branches.

The bank is selling the buildings its Orewa, Browns Bay, Greenwood’s Corner, Karangahape Road and Mt Eden Auckland branches are located in. An ASB spokeswoman said the properties are being sold as part of a "desire to focus on core banking business."

"The properties are each being marketed with a three year lease, including rights of renewal, which confirms ASB’s on-going tenancy for this period and at the same time, allows the purchaser to consider upgrade and/or redevelopment options over time," the spokeswoman said.

In total she said ASB has 16 of its 140 branches located in buildings it owns, and is "continually reviewing" its property requirements. There were no immediate plans to sell any other properties.

The buildings will be sold by auction on August 8.

Seem to recall that HSBC sold its London headquarters  (and rented them) back just before the financial crisis of 2008. As you hint Stephen, its good to be up with the play
