Bernard Hickey talks with Marcus Lush on Radio Live at 6.50 am about family trusts, more Euro drama and another debt-funded disaster

Bernard Hickey and Marcus Lush talk every weekday morning just after 6.50 am about business, economics, markets and personal finance.

Every weekday morning just after 6.50 am I talk with Marcus Lush on Radio Live about the latest news in business, markets, economics and personal finance.

I usually send through suggestions the night before. Sometimes we veer off into other areas or pick up on things that happen overnight.

But here's my suggestions as of 6.30 pm the night before. I'll update the next day with a link to the audio.

Marcus

1. Trouble is brewing in Europe and America again. This time it's Finland refusing to allow the latest Greek bailout. See more here at The Telegraph. And there are worries about Bank of America's stability and the need for more capital. I'll watch the markets closely overnight. US futures are indicating a 1% fall.

2. The decision by Australian newspapers to boycott the Rugby World Cup is another sign that television sports rights and print journalism are being blurred as newspaper reporters start recording and replaying video online. See more here at NZHerald.

3. The Supreme Court's decision to back the IRD in the Penny and Hooper case will send a chill through the small business sector, particularly those who set up family trusts in an effort to reduce their tax bills. See Amanda Morrall's story here.

4. And here's another debt-funded takeover in New Zealand from the 'golden era' of 2006/07 that has gone horribly wrong. TransPacific Industries has fessed up to a A$291.5 million writedown on the value of assets, including Waste Management in New Zealand. See more here at BusinessDesk.

cheers

Bernard

Bernard, good idea putting up this info...I'm a bit of a Radio Live regular...if you have Marcus's ear, perhaps suggest to him to scrap the Trademe segment...doesn't make good radio at all...however Marcus probably already knows, and sponsorship dollars have the final say.

Any control (testing) of goods and people coming from Japan into New Zealand ? How bad is the contamination really ?
