Soy milk is in, saveloys are out

Posted in News

Best with tomato sauceIn an interesting commentary on the changing nature of New Zealand society, Statistics New Zealand has removed saveloys, fresh peaches and condensed milk from the basket of food it checks for the Food Price Index. Statistics New Zealand said it had replaced these with fresh pineapple, soy milk, free-range eggs, hummus dip and chilled fruit juice. There's something sad about this. I grew up on saveloys, although it is true I haven't eaten them for years. There can be no doubt now. I am old and unfashionable.

Luckily I wasn't as curious (paranoid) then as I am now.
