We have rolled out an upgrade to our content management system

Regular readers will notice some changes to the interest.co.nz service today.

Overnight we rolled out a major upgrade to our content management system (CMS) engine.

We have been working on this for a long time and while it has been subject to a huge amount of checking, there will inevitably be a number of issues that aren't revealed until it is 'live'.

If they cause you frustration, we apologise.

Further work is also required to tune it to regain the high optimistation we had with the old version. User experience may seem degraded now but our new CMS opens up the opportunity to tune our service to a higher, faster level. We are working on those tuneups, but they won't be obvious for a while yet (hopefully rolled out progressively over the next month or so).

We want reader feedback on anything you notice. Readers use our service in many unique ways and it is entirely possible we have missed something you think is 'obvious'.

You can comment below if you are a registered user, use our Feedback link, or you can email me directly at
david (dot) chaston @ interest (dot) co (dot) nz.

Thank you for using interest.co.nz. We love having you as a reader.

We welcome your comments below. If you are not already registered, please register to comment.

Remember we welcome robust, respectful and insightful debate. We don't welcome abusive or defamatory comments and will de-register those repeatedly making such comments. Our current comment policy is here.

May I make a comment about these changes...
1. The dates (in the comments) are the wrong way around
2. "0 users have voted" is unnecessary and takes up too much space - the simple number we had before was sufficient
3. The recent comments box on the right has disappeared - I really miss that
4. Longer threads divided up into separate pages. Makes it harder (impossible actually) to quickly scroll down to check for "new" comments
5. The line "Posted in..." below the title still a bit of a shambles. I thought THAT would have been fixed!

less noise is more information.

The "users have voted" is rubbish, irrelevant, and is just more page noise. dump it.

agree dates format is broken, this is still NZ, TPPA isn't signed so we aren't a state of the US (yet).

Date now fixed, thanks pouggey! We'll address your other comments ASAP.

Threading fixed, we now display up to 300 comments per page.

Unsure about the "recent comments box", I think I see that OK both on the front page and this page, will have to check!

Thanks for fixing that :)
I see a "comment stream" box on the right but it's empty. Clicking on another tab in that box doesn't seem to do anything...

The "line posted in" was probably only incorrect if you happen to use large fonts (Chrome setting), and were using Chrome? Should be better now too.

I'm using Safari on Mac. I'll try to copy-and-paste the line here:

Hm... on my screen it ends in "Tw" and then a couple of boxes (the second one with a "0" in it). So the "Tw" should be "Tweet" then :)
Zooming in or out doesn't fix it...
It's the same in Firefox on Mac. I don't use Chrome...

The comments stream does appear in Firefox. So must be a setting in Safari - but why has it changed?

My clipboard can now interact with the comment box which is great. If I wanted to copy and paste I used to have to open chrome, which I hate.

Still no option for downvoting, but I can still hope.

# users have voted is worse then the old counter

Spellchecker is great! Now my spelling can get woser.

Clicking a link takes 2 clicks instead of the usual one click.

I.C.NZ

Full of "past comments' repeatedly showing as "Recent Comments' is this back to 2009/2010 or what?.

Will Bernard be right, will he be wrong...Where is Christov, where is Wolly, where are all the others???

Answers please. ....

Back to the Future....or what?...is this progress, I ask myself.

Can we have the good old days back, when everything worked as planned and I knew my way around the system.?...Is Firefox the issue, is it something I said....??
