Idyllic rural lifestyle property with meth contamination issues sells for $178,000

A "P house" on a one hectare site near Matamata which sold for $178,000 was one of the more unusual results of Bayleys' auctions around the country this week.

The three bedroom, 1930s-era farmhouse (pictured), on its own one hectare site and surrounded by paddocks at the end of a long driveway, came with a rustic shed and had expansive views across the paddocks towards the Kaimai Ranges.

Unfortunately it had also tested positive for methamphetamine (P) contamination, and had been served with a Notice of Hazardous Chemicals Contamination by the Police and also a Notice to Cleanse the premises by the Matamata Piako District Council.

According to QV.co.nz the property had a rating valuation of $310,000, and Quotable Value estimated its (non-contaminated) market value at between $277,140 and $432,860.

Around Bayleys other auction rooms week, in Auckland a three bedroom Grey Lynn villa sold for $1.98 million, a Whenuapai house sold for $880,000, several Remuera houses sold for more than $2 million each, and a  Devonport cottage sold for $1.46 million.

In Mt Maunagnui a house set one street back from the beach sold for $1.15 million, and in Canterbury  a character house on a 4.8 hectare lifestyle block at Marshlands sold for $1.27 million.
