MARKET REPORT NEW ZEALAND WOOL SALE  16TH FEBRUARY 2017

At Christchurch 7,268 bales. The offering was made up of approx. –  58% Xbd Fleece, 9% Xbd 2nd Shear and early shorn, 14% 1st lambs, balance 2nd shear Odds, XBD bulky oddments and misc.

The market compared to the last South Island sale 2-February-2017 

XBD Fleece BB/B style 6% dearer, B minus 1.5% dearer, B/C unchanged

XBD 2nd shear and early shorn Nominally par to 2% dearer

1st Lambs Those sold today were approximately 5% below the passed in prices of the last South Island sale.

XBD Bulky oddments 5% dearer

XBD 2nd shear oddments par to 2% dearer

Passings 31%

Todays wool sale saw prices recover slightly for some types, but continue to slide for others. Better colour and sound fleece was in demand as were lambs finer than 30 micron. Unfortunately the majority of the offering was poorer coloured fleece, which is proving difficult to find a level. Passings were 31%, with 12% of the offering withdrawn prior to the sale.

The NZ Dollar today compared with the last sale 2-February 2017 USD 0.7205 down 0.6%, Euro 0.6805 up 1.0%, Sterling 0.5790 down 1.0% and the Aus 0.9360 down 2.3%

Next week we have a wool sale on Thursday 23 February 2017 at  Christchurch  with 5,321 bales.

MARKET REPORT NAPIER WOOL SALE 16TH FEBRUARY 2017

At Napier 6,452 bales. The offering was made up of – 20% Xbd Fleece, 25% Xbd 2nd Shear and Early Shorn, 36% 1st Lambs, balance 2nd lambs, oddments and misc.

The market compared to the last North Island sale on the 9-February-17

XBD Fleece  BB/B style nominally 2% dearer, B to C style 3-4% dearer.

Xbd 2nd Shear and Early Shorn  generally par 3% dearer, with the exception of BB/B style 2/3 inch which was 3% cheaper

1st Lambs Good colour 29.5 mic and finer 2/3 inch 3-5% dearer, 30 mic and coarser unchanged, Av colour all microns 5-7% dearer, 3 inch and longer 5-7% dearer

2nd Lambs Good colour 3% dearer, av and av/inf colour 15% dearer

XBD Bulky oddments generally unchanged

XBD 2nd shear oddments good colour 4% dearer, av/poor colour 2-3% cheaper

Passings  CPW 14% Overall 12%

The NZ dollar today compared to the last  North Island sale  9-February 2017, USD 0.7205 down  1.6%, Euro 0.6805 down 0.5%, Sterling 0.5790 down 0.9%, AUS 0.9360 down 2.2%

The upward price tendency continued for most types at today's North Island sale.

The competition continues to improve for most types, especially 1st lambs. The overall passings are dropping and today they were 12%

The next sale is on Thursday 23-February 2017 at Christchurch 5,321 bales.
