MARKET REPORT NEW ZEALAND WOOL SALE 25TH AUGUST 2016

At Christchurch 5,315 bales. The offering was made up of approx. –  35% Xbd Fleece, 10% Xbd 2nd Shear and early shorn,  5% Xbd Hgt Fleece, 25% Merino and Halfbred Fleece, balance 2nd shear odds, bulky oddments and misc.

The market compared to the last South Island sale 18-August- 2016 –

Xbd Fleece 1 to 2% cheaper

Xbd 2nd Shear and Early shorn par to 1% cheaper

Xbd Hgt Fleece 1-2% cheaper

Merino and Halfbred Fleece par to 1% cheaper

Xbd Bulky Oddments par to 1% cheaper, and Xbd 2nd shear oddments par to 2% cheaper

Todays CPW catalogue had some of the best pre-lamb fleece of the season but the quality did not turn the market and hence the 22% passings. The market fell slightly, some of which was currency but still we are seeing low volumes being sold into China. The European market is strong and is holding the NZ market together.

Fine wools also eased slightly and fell into line with the Aussie market. The high tensile strength lines of merino wools showed good premiums above slightly weaker fibres.

Passings 22%.

The NZ dollar today compared to the last South Island sale 18-August 2016, via USD 0.7310 up 0.9%, via Euro 0.6485 up 1.0%, via Sterling 0.5520 down 0.6%, via Aus 0.9600 up 1.3%

Next week we have one wool sale on Thursday 1-September 2016 at  Napier with 7,000 bales.

MARKET REPORT NAPIER WOOL SALE 11TH AUG 2016

At Napier 8,634 bales. The offering was made up of – 4% Xbd Fleece, 50% Xbd 2nd Shear and Early Shorn,  15% XBD 2nd shear Hgt, 8% Hogget Fleece and early shorn, balance various oddments and misc.

The market compared to the last North Island sale on the 21-July 2016

Xbd Fleece  All styles - B and B minus - very nominal  2% dearer, B/C up to 5% dearer.

Xbd 2nd Shear and Early Shorn  All styles 3/5 inch 2% cheaper, 3/4 inch generally 3% cheaper, 2/3 and 2/4 inch 1% dearer.

XBD 2nd Shear Hgt   2/4 inch 2% cheaper, 2/3 inch 1-2% dearer.

XBD Hgt Fleece and Early Shorn generally unchanged

XBD 2nd shear oddments par to 1% dearer.

Passings  CPW 20% Overall 20%

The NZ dollar today compared to last  North Island sale  21-July 2016, USD 0.7215 up 2.8%, Euro 0.6455 up 1.2%, Sterling 0.555 up 3.9%, AUS 0.9355 down 0.3%

The general "sideways" move in the wool market today was described as satisfactory, considering the stronger NZD versus most of our trading currencies. UK, Europe and India are continuing to buy NZ wool  and the lack of solid interest from China is continuing.

Next week we have one wool sale on Thursday 18th August 2016 at Christchurch with 6,300 bales.
