MARKET REPORT NEW ZEALAND WOOL SALE 17TH AUGUST 2017

At Christchurch 8,255 bales. The offering was made up of approx. – 40% Xbd Fleece, 15% Xbd 2nd Shear and early shorn, 6% 1st lambs, 14% Halfbred fleece, balance  2nd Shear Odds, XBD bulky oddments and misc.

The market compared to the last South Island sale 10-August-2017 

XBD Fleece BB and BB / B style 4-5% dearer, B and B/C style 2% dearer

XBD 2nd shear and early shorn BB and BB/B Style 2/4-3/5 inch  2% dearer, BB BB/B style 2/3 inch 4% dearer

1st Lambs  Nominally 2% dearer

Halfbred fleece  24 mic 7.5% dearer, 25 micron 3% dearer, 26-29 micron 2% dearer.

XBD bulky oddments 2-4% dearer

XBD 2nd shear Oddments 5-10% dearer

Passings 20%

Prices for all categories lifted on the back of renewed interest from China, especially for good colour and sound pre lamb  fleece.

Fine wool prices, finer than 26 micron, were extreme on the back of large increases in the Australian market, with major increases in the 21 to 23 micron range.

The NZ dollar today compared to the last  South Island sale 10-August- 2017, USD 0.7315 down 0.2%, Euro 0.6215 down 0.3%, Sterling 0.5675 up 0.7%, AUS 0.9225 down 0.8%

Next week we have a wool sale on Thursday 24-August 2017 at  Napier  with approximately 7,735  bales.

At Napier 7,8724 bales. The offering was made up of – 6% Xbd Fleece, 49% Xbd 2nd Shear and Early Shorn, 6% 1st Lambs, 17% 2nd Shear Hgt, balance 2nd shear oddments, bulky oddments and misc.

The market compared to the last North Island sale on the 20-July-17

XBD Fleece  B Minus Style  Nominally 5% dearer, B/C style Nominally 10% dearer

Xbd 2nd Shear and Early Shorn BB/B and B style all lengths 3 to 4% dearer, B Minus style all lengths 5-6% dearer, B/C style all lengths 7-8% dearer

1st Lambs Very nominally  5% dearer

XBD 2nd shear Hogget Generally 5-7% dearer

2nd shear oddments Average colour 4-5% dearer, Average/poor colour par to 2% dearer

Passings  CPW 8% Overall 11%

The NZ dollar today compared to the last  North Island sale  20-July- 2017, USD 0.7330 down 0.3%, Euro 0.6235 down 20.4%, Sterling 0.5635 down 0.3%, AUS 0.9300 up 0.6.5%

Compared to the last North Island sale prices at todays sale were stronger for all types. It appears China have bought a little more quantity in recent weeks and a wider range of types while the UK and Europe continue their recent activity.

Competition remains well spread with the numbers of passings continuing to drop.

The next sale is on Thursday 24-August 2017 at Christchurch 8,255 bales.
