MARKET REPORT NEW ZEALAND WOOL SALE 23RD MARCH 2017

At Christchurch 10,000 bales. The offering was made up of approx. –  40% Xbd Fleece, 13% Xbd 2nd Shear and early shorn, 23% 1st lambs, balance 2nd Shear Odds, XBD bulky oddments and misc.

The market compared to the last South Island sale 16-March-2017 

XBD Fleece BB/B style 1-2% dearer, B to B/C style unchanged

XBD 2nd shear and early shorn BB and BB/B Style unchanged

1st Lambs  2/3 inch 1 to 2% cheaper, 3 inch par to 2% dearer, 3/4 inch 2-3% cheaper

2nd lambs unchanged

XBD Bulky oddments unchanged

XBD 2nd shear oddments par to 2% dearer

Passings 18%

A good offering of crossbred fleece and lambs wool saw the market maintain last weeks levels.

Good demand from exporters for good colour fleece and second shear, as well as lambs wool 75mm staple and finer than 30.5 micron, were the features of the sale.

Passings of 18% showed that growers were keen to move wool at these levels which is encouraging for market confidence.

The NZ dollar today compared to the last  North Island sale 16-March 2017, USD 0.7050 up  1.5%, Euro 0.6590 unchanged, Sterling 0.5660 down  0.7%, AUS 0.9200 up 0.4%

Next week we have a wool sale on Thursday 30 March 2017 at  Napier  with approximately 10,271  bales.

MARKET REPORT NAPIER WOOL SALE 16TH MARCH 2017

At Napier 10,926 bales. The offering was made up of – 18% Xbd Fleece, 32% Xbd 2nd Shear and Early Shorn, 34% 1st Lambs, balance 2nd lambs, oddments and misc.

The market compared to the last North Island sale on the 9th March 17

XBD Fleece  BB/B style 3% dearer, B style 6% dearer, B Minus and B/C style 8% dearer.

Xbd 2nd Shear and Early Shorn   generally 5-7% dearer with the exception of B/C style which was 8-10% dearer

1st Lambs 5-10% dearer.

2nd Lambs 5% dearer

XBD Bulky oddments 8% dearer but poor colour 1% dearer

XBD 2nd shear oddments generally 6-8% dearer

Passings  CPW 10% Overall 11%

The NZ dollar today compared to the last  North Island sale  2-March 2017, USD 0.6960 down  2.5%, Euro 0.6540 down 3.2%, Sterling 0.5700 down 1.6%, AUS 0.9160 down 1.5%

With good demand continuing from most offshore markets, and a weaker NZ dollar against all currencies, this is helping to maintain the recent upward price trends at todays NI sale.

The next sale is on Thursday 23-March 2017 at Christchurch 9,260 bales.
