MARKET REPORT NEW ZEALAND WOOL SALE  12TH JANUARY 2017

The market compared to the last South Island sale 15- December- 2016

Xbred fleece BB and BB/B style unchanged, B to B/C style 1-2% cheaper

Xbred 2nd shear and early shorn  1-2% cheaper

XBD Hgt fleece and Early Shorn1-2% cheaper.

XBD 2nd shear oddments generally par to 3% dearer

Passings 31%

A disappointing start to 2017 saw prices ease across all micron ranges. Reduced demand saw exporters being very selective in their purchases. Crossbred fleece especially showed signs of tenderness and mixed lengths. Good shed preparation is needed to remove these faulty wools especially when prices are low.

The NZ Dollar today compared with the last sale 15-December 2016 USD 0.7035 down 2.6%, Euro 0.6670 down 1.7%, Sterling 0.5785 down 1.7% and the Aus 0.9475 down 1.5%

Next week we have a wool sale on Thursday 19 January 2017 at  Napier  with 9,200 bales

The North Island market eased today for most types. This can be attributed to the very selective activity from NZ exporters for their international markets. The further upward tendency of the NZ dollar is also restricting new export opportunities.
