New website for weeds and pests

Posted in Rural News

I came across this new website www.pestweb.co.nz that will interest NZ farmers as they grapple with weed and pest control. Science and management change over time and continual upskilling is part and parcel with improving management.

A login option will also be useful as regional differences and outbreaks do occur and early warnings allows decisions to be made quickly.

This is just another example why the introduction of rural broadband is important as managers keep up to date and upskilled .

PestWebNZ is a free tool to assist farmers and agricultural professionals in decision-making regarding weed and pest identification, biology, impact and management. PestWebNZ contains a number of New Zealand pasture weeds and pests, which have been chosen in consultation with key farming, industry and research personnel. We are adding more weeds and pests to PestWebNZ.

PestWebNZ covers four main categories:

  • Biology: the weed or pest life-cycle and where it is found;
  • Impact: how the weed or pest affects your crops, pasture and livestock;
  • Control: different methods used to control the weed or pest;
  • Identification: use the identify tab to identify a weed, pest or its damage.

We welcome your help to improve our coverage of this issue. Any examples or experiences to relate? Any links to other news, data or research to shed more light on this? Any insight or views on what might happen next or what should happen next? Any errors to correct?

 Please, don’t spray

 Please, don’t spray – keep the Hu hu’s for later. They already save us a $ 4.50.-  dog- roll per week.

the introduction of rural

the introduction of rural broadband is important as managers keep up to date and upskilled . Before anyone gets all excited about rural broadband, first we need to make sure there are enough technicians to actually ensure timely installation.

I am aware of a farmer ordering a satellite connection back in March for connection on 1 June. 'No problem'.  Despite many calls and assurances that they have been moved further up the ladder for connection, they are still waiting.  It is a joke.  Farmside - I would say  'asleep in the chair by the fireside.'

I hope they have a solution

I hope they have a solution on this website for household pests as well, we're not all farmers but we all live in a house so that would some pretty helpful information. Thanks for sharing the resource!
