The Opening Bell: Where currencies start for Tuesday, November 12, 2013

The NZD/USD opens around 0.8240 this morning after a quiet night across global markets.

US bond markets were closed overnight for Veteran’s day holiday. Stock markets have been open but have had a very quiet night with the S&P 500 flat. European stocks had a positive session with The Euro Stoxx Index up 0.6%.

The NZD is at current interbank mid rates: 0.8811 AUD, 0.6145 EUR, 0.5154 GBP, 81.73 JPY, 0.8635 CAD.

Federal Reserve chairwoman nominee Janet Yellen's confirmation hearing on Friday morning NZT (around 4am) in front of the U.S. Senate banking committee is expecting to get considerable attention from markets as investors look for further clues on her monetary policy bias.

Today the focus will be on REINZ house price data for any signs LVR restrictions have had an impact From Australia we get NAB Business Confidence data at 1:30pm.
