The Opening Bell: Where currencies start for Thursday, January 16, 2014

The NZD/USD opens around 0.8330 this morning after trading to interbank highs around 0.8372 overnight.

The US Dollar found support against most major currencies overnight after a much better than manufacturing survey.

The World Bank upgraded their growth forecasts for the global economy this year to 3.2%- up from 2.4% in 2013.

Global stocks rallied overnight with the S&P 500 up 0.45% to new record highs. US treasury yields are up with the 10 year at 2.89%. Oil prices gained 2% while gold lost 0.45%.

The NZD opens at 0.9355 AUD, 0.6129 EUR, 87.21 JPY, 0.5093 JPY, 0.9125 CAD.

Nothing to report from New Zealand today. From Australia we get Dec Employment Data at 1:30pm NZT.
