The Opening Bell: Where currencies start for Tuesday, March 25, 2014

By Dan Bell

The NZD/USD opens around 0.8545 this morning after trading a tight range overnight.

It was a quiet night across global markets.

US equities are down with the S&P 500 off 0.31% as I write.

The NZD/AUD has found support overnight around 0.9350.

Since hitting an interbank high of 0.9480 on the 12th March the NZD has been trending lower - despite the rosier outlook for the NZ economy.

Against the other major cross rates the NZD opens at current indicative mid rates: 0.6172 EUR, 0.5178 GBP, 87.34 JPY, and 0.9561 CAD.

Not much to report on the local front today. From Australia RBA Dep Gov Lowe is speaking late this afternoon.
