The Opening Bell: Where currencies start for Wednesday, April 23, 2014

The NZD/USD opens at 0.8590 having gained overnight after three consecutive days of losses.

The NZD remained in a similar range yesterday with support at 0.8555 and some resistance at 0.8600.

Overnight US Existing Home Sales came in at 4.59 million which was only slight better than expectation of 4.57 million and worse than the last print of 4.60 million

Stock markets currently: Dow Jones 0.4%, S&P 0.41%, FTSE 0.85%.

The NZD opens the crosses -

0.9180 AUD
0.6225 EUR
0.5110 GBP
88.20   JPY
0.9480 CAD.

Locally there is no data out today. The market will look closely at Australia's CPI for Q1 out today, ahead of the RBNZ Rate announcement tomorrow morning.
