The Opening Bell: Where currencies start for Tuesday, August 26, 2014

The NZDUSD opens at 0.8347 this morning.

The NZD was the weakest performing currency at the start of the week, trading as low as 0.8338 as traders reinstated their short NZD positions following the Jackson Hole Fed meeting.

With the London markets closed for their summer bank holiday, currency markets were mostly range bound with very little flow.

Global equity markets are mainly higher - Dow +0.49%, Nikkei +0.48%, Shanghai -0.51%, FTSE closed DAX +1.18%

Gold prices are steady  at USD$1,276, oil prices fell  -0.22%.

The current indicative mid-rates are:

NZDUSD           0.8347
NZDEUR           0.6328
NZDGBP           0.5035
NZDJPY            86.81
NZDAUD           0.8975
NZDCAD           0.9165

Today we have NZ’s Trade Balance hitting the tapes at 10:45 am.
