The Opening Bell: Where currencies start for Friday, September 12, 2014

The NZDUSD opens at 0.8168 this morning.

The NZD is lower this morning following yesterday's dovish RBNZ Monetary Policy Statement with traders now pushing out their interest rate hike expectations to the second half of 2015.

Global equity markets (with the exception of the Nikkei) are lower - Dow -0.21%, Nikkei +0.76%, Shanghai -0.29%, FTSE -0.45% DAX -0.09%

Gold prices continue to fall trading as low as USD$1,235 before recovering to close at USD$1,240 an ounce.

Oil price $91.96 up 1.23%

The current indicative mid-rates are:

NZDGBP           0.5036
NZDJPY              87.46
NZDAUD           0.8984
NZDCAD           0.9024
