The Opening Bell: Where currencies start on Tuesday, January 13, 2015

The NZDUSD opens at 0.7778 (mid-rate) this morning.

The NZD has fallen against all our major trading partners over the past 24 hours with traders repositioning for the new year and falling commodity prices weighing heavy on the currency.

Brent Crude has fallen nearly 5% over the past 24hrs and has closed comfortably below $50 a barrel for the first time since April 2009.

Global equity markets have started the week mixed - Dow -0.65%, Nikkei Closed, Shanghai -1.71%, FTSE 0.00%, DAX +1.38%, CAC +1.18%

Gold prices are up 1.04% currently trading  at $1228, while Oil prices are again lower down -4.07% to $46.39

The current indicative mid-rates are:

NZDUSD           0.7778

NZDEUR           0.6562

NZDGBP           0.5121

NZDJPY            92.83

NZDAUD           0.9521

NZDCAD           0.9278
