The Opening Bell: Where currencies start on Thursday, January 29, 2015

The NZDUSD opens at 0.7455 (mid-rate) this morning.

The NZD has had another quiet night ahead of this morning’s U.S and NZ Monetary Policy Statements, with investors remaining short on expectations the RBNZ will shift its interest rate stance from a tightening bias to neutral.

Global equity markets are mixed - Dow +0.22%, Nikkei +0.15%, Shanghai -1.41%, FTSE +0.21% DAX +0.76%, CAC -0.29%

Gold prices are down $5 to $1286, Oil prices are down 2.79% at $44.94 a barrel.

The current indicative mid-rates are:

NZDUSD           0.7455

NZDEUR           0.6576

NZDGBP           0.4916

NZDJPY            87.79

NZDAUD           0.9358

NZDCAD           0.9289
