Net long term migration

Select chart tabs

Net (long term) migration is the difference between...

  • migrant arrivals, who are overseas residents arriving in New Zealand and cumulatively spending 12 out of the next 16 months in New Zealand, and
  • migrant departures, who are New Zealand residents departing New Zealand and cumulatively spending 12 out of the next 16 months out of New Zealand.

Overseas residents and New Zealand residents are both comprised of New Zealand citizens and non-New Zealand citizens.

The first chart shows the annual net result of these two movements, while the second chart shows the monthly net migration.

Estimates for the last 16 months are provisional and are subject to revision.

Would we be able to have this chart also as Cumulative Net Migration starting from where the slider is set to please?
