Deutsche Bank has named a former Goldman Sachs investment banker as its new CEO for Australia and New Zealand effective from February next year.
Deutsche, which operates in New Zealand as a branch of Deutsche Bank AG, says James McMurdo will succeed the retiring John Macfarlane.
Deutsche says McMurdo has most recently been a London-based partner at Goldman Sachs, and head of its financial sponsors group for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He has also previously been co-head of investment banking for Goldman Sachs in Australia and New Zealand, where Deutsche says he played an instrumental role in building up Goldman Sachs's business in this region.
McMurdo joined Goldman Sachs JBWere in 2005 from UBS Australia after starting his working life as a chartered accountant in London.
Deutsche says McMurdo will report to Gunit Chadha and Alan Cloete, who are co-CEOs for Asia Pacific and members of Deutsche Bank’s group executive committee.
In New Zealand Deutsche Bank owns 49% of Craigs Investment Partners.
