Here are the key changes to know about in the New Zealand equity market; Gentrack, Summerset Group, Serko and Freightways lift as Meridian Energy, Goodman, Scales Corp and Briscoe Group weigh on the NZX50

Here are the key things you need to know about in the NZX markets over the past 24 hours. Changes are as at 3:00 pm and may change when the market closes at 4:45 pm.

WHAT THE NZX 50 INDEX IS DOING
The NZX50 has risen just +0.1%, but building on recent momentum with the index now up +0.4% over the past five trading days, +1.2% over the past month, +3.6% over the past six months and +8.2% over the past year. 

THE MAIN GAINERS
A total of 36 stocks advanced, led by Gentrack (GTK, #47), which climbed +4% on the day to extend its five-day gain to +12% and monthly gain to +6%, despite remaining -43% lower over six months and -59% over the year. Summerset Group Holdings (SUM, #19) gained +2%, although it remains down -3% over five days, -8% over one month, -27% over six months and -29% over the past year. Serko (SKO, #49) also rose +2%, adding to a strong +10% weekly gain and +11% monthly rise, while still sitting -39% lower over six months and -43% over the year. Freightways (FRW, #17) increased +2%, extending gains to +4% over five days and +3% over the past month, while remaining -2% lower over six months and +29% higher than a year ago.

THE MAIN DECLINERS
There were 35 decliners across the market, with Meridian Energy (MEL, #3) leading the losses after falling -3%, taking its five-day decline to -3% while sitting -1% lower over the past month, -2% over six months and -2% over the year. Goodman (GNZ, #16) also dropped -3%, adding to a -1% five-day decline and -3% monthly fall, although it remains +7% higher over both six months and one year. Scales Corp (SCL, #32) eased -2%, despite remaining +2% over five days, +1% over one month, +13% over six months and +43% over the past year. Briscoe Group (BGP, #30) fell -2%, trimming its five-day gain to +1% while remaining -3% lower over the month, -7% over six months and -22% over the past year.

KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS
The NZX equity market capitalisation rose +4.0% year-on-year to $179.6 bln in July, lifting total NZX market capitalisation to $243.4 bln (+2.5%). Despite stronger market values, equity capital raising activity remained subdued, with just $125 mln of new capital listed year-to-date, down -69.5%, while equity listings totalled $233 mln, a -96.7% decline. Secondary equity capital raising also weakened, with New Zealand issuers raising $1.46 bln year-to-date (-57.5%) and dual or foreign issuers raising $175 mln (-58.2%). Trading activity, however, remained robust, with equity trades increasing +17.5% year-on-year to more than 1.05 million and the value traded rising +2.7% to $2.74 bln.

Rua Gold (RUA) has received approval to begin exploration drilling at its Glamorgan Project after securing consent for nine drill pads. The company plans a fully funded 9,000-metre initial drilling programme, with construction of drill pads and exploration camps to begin following ecological checks and drilling expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026. The targets were identified through two years of surface exploration and geophysical analysis, with the project displaying geological characteristics similar to the nearby Wharekirauponga gold-silver deposit, including extensive gold-arsenic soil anomalies and quartz systems identified through resistivity surveying.

Fletcher Building (FBU, #13) will release its FY26 financial results before the market opens on Wednesday, 19 August 2026. Management will host an investor and analyst briefing at 11:00am NZT (9:00am AEST) on the same day to discuss the company's full-year results and outlook.
