Bernard Hickey details the key news overnight in 90 seconds at 9am in association with BNZ, including news Lufthansa pilots are expected to go on strike tomorrow because of concerns over pay for foreign-based crews. Meanwhile, good news last night for Weta Digital which has won a Scientific and Technical Academy Award in Los Angeles for its visual effects work on Avatar. One of the winners was Dr Mark Sagar, a researcher in 3D Medical imaging who used his technology to make facial movements more realistic for Avatar. This is a great example of how Wellington's movie hub has now become a technology hub and how New Zealand businesses can use the power of technology to bridge the tyranny of distance to our markets. Meanwhile, Bank of America and Barclays have forecast oil will hit US$100 a barrel some time this year because of strong demand from emerging economies and supply nearing its peak. They see oil heading towards US$150 a barrel within 5 years.
