Travel insurance - pandemic shivers

Travel insurance - pandemic shivers

It would seem that travel insurers are becoming wary of potential claims from Pandemics. Southern Cross Travel introduced a new policy in mid October this year that has a newly introduced condition excluding claims under Section 2 of the policy, arising from Pandemics. Section 2 covers Cancellation and Loss of Deposits. This would mean you would not be able to claim for any losses arising from cancelling a planned holiday due to a Pandemic situation. Tower and 1Cover have also introduced similar clauses in their policies. The Tower exclusion applies to cover under all sections of the policy while the 1Cover exclusion is similar to Southern Cross and applies to Cancellation and Loss of Deposits. You can almost certainly expect other travel insurance providers to follow suit with similar exclusions. Coverage comparisons for travel insurance are here.
