Description of trading activities

The Port of Tauranga is the largest port in New Zealand in terms of both cargo volume and container throughput. It has container volumes exceeding 950,000 units.

CEO profile

Leonard Sampson was appointed CEO of Port of Tauranga on the 1st of July 2021. Before this, he was the company's Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining the Port of Tauranga, Sampson spent time as the National Manager at Toll Group and then had experience at KiwiRail as the General Manager. 

Chairman profile

Julia Hoare joined the Board of the POT, in August 2015. Hoare, appointed Chair in August of 2022 has an extensive range of experience covering the commercial, tax, finance, regulatory, and sustainability sectors. Hoare held a role as a partner with PwC for over two decades. Hoare is also the Deputy Chair of the a2 Milk Company Ltd, and a Director of Auckland International Airport Ltd. Hoare is also the President of the Institute of Directors and a Member of the Chapter Zero New Zealand Steering Committee.
