With a picture telling "a thousand stories", we thought it would be good to review where livestock commodity prices are at compared to the last 3 years by way of our charts.

Export schedules have made significant movements since pre-Xmas and are not far off yearly highs. Local trade beef prices have lead the trend and last week achieved yearly highs normally only seen when beef is scarce in the spring. How high will they head to, when stock is scarce end of winter early spring?

Winter storms in the US have slowed trading, and coupled with weaker food service demand, prices were softer for imported beef.

A much earlier killing season for all classes of beef in the north island due to the dry, has helped keep schedules strong, and bull and manufacturing schedules are at yearly highs.
