Interest.co.nz is seeking an experienced business or economics journalist to work from the Parliamentary Press Gallery
press gallery

We’re seeking an experienced journalist to work from our Parliamentary Press Gallery office in Wellington.

A successful applicant will ideally have experience in economic and business journalism and be interested in what makes the New Zealand economy tick, and how this intersects with public policy.

Variety is promised. Flexibility and adaptability will be necessary to help us maintain our trusted, independent reputation. We see our role as explaining the New Zealand economy to New Zealanders.

You'll be working online, not behind a paywall. You will get wide readership. Podcast and video opportunities are included. You can see our readership levels and demographics here.

As 2026 is an election year, your role will be critical in reporting on, and explaining the public policy offers to the electorate, and their economic implications.

Having an opinion and being able to articulate it would also help. You would be working with this experienced team of business journalists.

This is a full-time, salaried role, starting in February 2026.

Applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.

You can either contact us via this link, or directly.
