Are you an Australian journalist, in New Zealand for the holidays? We might have an opportunity that will pique your interest.

We’re seeking an experienced journalist who has a background in watching the important factors that drive the Australian economy.

Our initial target audiences are
- households, who want to know how the financial markets affect them
    - those who have a home loan (25-40 years)
    - those who have or are building significant bank deposits (50+)
- medium-sized business finance professionals who want to understand how interest rates and currencies affect their business

A successful applicant will ideally have experience in economic and business reporting and be interested in what makes the Australian economy tick, and how this intersects with both public policy and commercial decision-making.

You will also help edit our news service, and assess the worth of a variety of content that comes our way.

Variety is promised. Flexibility and adaptability will be necessary to help us maintain our trusted, authentic and independent reputation. We see our role as explaining the Australian economy to Australians, so they can make better-informed decisions. You will need to do that in a balanced way.

You'll be working online, and not behind a paywall. You will be helping build a wide readership based on the current resources. Podcast and video opportunities are included.

Having an opinion and being able to articulate it would also help. You would be working with this experienced team of business journalists.

This is a new salaried role, starting 2026.

It is strictly an in-office full-time position, based in our Auckland, New Zealand office. Occasional travel may be required.

Applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.

You can contact us directly.
