EVs and hybrids grab near-record share of new cars sold in a month of robust sales, boosted by strong rental car buying
BYD EVs

Registration of private cars was strong again in October with 11,833 new vehicles and 8283 used imports sold in the month. Of the new cars 4868 were rental vehicles or more than 40% of all new cars sold.

NEVs (EVs and hybrids) were strong again this month, rising to 73% of all sales. Petrol-heads are a fast-fading minority these day.

In fact, only in December 2023 when it was the last opportunity to buy a publicly-subsidised EV, has it been higher.

Overall however, the number of registrations by business buyers was low (apart from rental cars of course). Only 2.8% of car sales were to business buyers in October, an unusually low level.
