Last night at the New Zealand Shareholders' Association (NZSA) Business Journalist of the Year awards, two of our reporters won their categories.
Jenée Tibshraeny took out the award for Business News reporting for her work covering Tower Insurance.
And Gareth Vaughan took out the Business Commentary award for his work covering the serious issues surrounding New Zealand's Financial Service Providers Register.
A third category for Business Features was won by Karen Scherer of NBR. She won the Supreme award.
The independent judging panel consisted of; Sir Rob Fenwick, former journalist and PR specialist – Chair; Reg Birchfield, journalist editor, publisher and Qantas Lifetime Media award winner; Dr Merja Myllylahti, 15 years business journalism in London. Project manager at AUT’s research center for Journalism, Media and Democracy; Jane Arnott, business communications and marketing specialist and Garth Ireland, independent financial analyst and consultant.
There is no corporate funding for these NZSA Awards and none of the judging panel are associated with NZSA.
Earlier in the year, Gareth Vaughan won the Business Journalist of the Year category at the 2017 Canon Media Awards.
