Auction activity picked up a bit over the last week, but not quite to a level that could be considered to mark the start of the 'spring bounce,' which signals the start of the busier spring/summer season.
Interest.co.nz monitored the auctions of 298 residential properties around the country over the week of 12-18 September.
That was the most in any week since the end of May, but was just shy of the 300 auctions needed to signal the start of the spring bounce.
In the equivalent week of last year, interest.co.nz monitored the auctions of 375 residential properties, so activity is still well below the level of a year ago.
Of the 298 properties offered at the latest auctions, sales were achieved on 110, giving an overall sales rate of 37%.
The sales rate has remained within the narrow band of 36% to 38% for the last five weeks.
In the equivalent week of last year (13-19 September 2025) the sales rate was 44%.
While the difference in the sales rate compared to a year ago is not huge, when combined with the more significant drop in overall auction activity, it does suggest a softening in the market.
Details of the individual properties offered at all of the auctions monitored by interest.co.nz, including the prices achieved for those that sold, are available on our Residential Auction Results page.
