The Green Party released its candidate list on Wednesday ahead of the 2026 election.
Co-Leader Chlöe Swarbrick said the current MPs on the list “are joined by candidates with experience in local Government, education, law, green energy, environmental expertise and community organising, to name just a few.”
The co-leaders are automatically ranked one and two on the list.
The Green Party list ranking process first puts an initial list vote to Green Party delegates - members chosen by their local branches.
A vote then goes out to all Green Party members who can vote for the delegate’s list or rank the candidates themselves. The list is then approved by party representatives.
The Green Party tightened its selection process this election cycle following scrutiny in light of issues with previous MPs such as Darleen Tana. The Party confirmed in April 2025 the ability to remove or decline potential candidates and gives itself greater scrutiny over the process.
