ANZ New Zealand's managing director of retail banking is leaving for an ANZ Group role in Sydney.

ANZ says Thompson has been appointed to the new position of managing director of bancassurance and customer experience for ANZ Wealth. She will report to ANZ Global Wealth CEO Joyce Phillips.

Thompson, an Australian, has been in her New Zealand role since March 2010. She'll start her new Sydney based job on December 2.

ANZ says an announcement on Thompson's replacement as managing director for retail in New Zealand will be made in due course.

The bank noted that during her New Zealand stint ANZ had "significantly" increased market share in key products and improved customer satisfaction.
