ASB says upgrade to mobile banking app will add ability for customers to authorise payments via mobile phone numbers instead of credit card details

ASB will unveil "PayHere"on Tuesday in an upgrade to its mobile banking application, through which customers can authorise payments by using their mobile phone number instead of credit card details.

A story in the Sunday Star-Times, quoting ASB's chief operating officer Russell Jones, said PayHere will allow users to type in their mobile phone number and authorise payments from transaction accounts in real time.

Jones was reported as saying ASB is working with payment firms DPS and Paystation, plus merchants.

"What we're really trying to do is get the convenience of Eftpos and the comfort and trust people have in the Eftpos system, and make that available online," Jones was quoted as saying.
