Here are the key changes to know about in the New Zealand equity market; Kathmandu, Precinct, SkyCity casino and SkyTV rise as Ryman, Gentrack, Napier Port and Vulcan Steel fall

Here are the key things you need to know about in the NZX markets over the past 24 hours. Changes are as at 3:00 pm and may change when the market closes at 4:45 pm.

WHAT THE NZX 50 INDEX IS DOING
The NZX 50 Index is down -0.6% for the day. The movement extended the index’s recent weakness, with the benchmark now up just +0.3% over five days but down  -0.2% over the past month. Despite the short-term pullback, the market remains in positive territory over longer timeframes, with the NZX50 up +5.8% over six months and +4.4% over the past year. 48 stocks had declines compared to 31 gainers in the market.

THE MAIN GAINERS
The strongest performer among the stocks listed was Kathmandu Holdings (KMD, #50), which gained +4% during the session. The retailer has also recorded a +6% increase over the past five trading days and a +3% gain over the past month, suggesting some recent improvement in its share price despite a significantly weaker longer-term performance. KMD remains down -48% over six months and -55% over one year, highlighting that the latest gains represent only a modest recovery from substantial previous declines. Precinct Properties (PCT, #20) was the second-strongest performer, rising +2% on the day. The property company remains -1% lower over five days and -6% lower over one month, while its six-month and one-year performances stand at -7% and -23%, respectively. SkyCity Entertainment (SKC, #36) and Sky Network (SKT, #46) both advanced +1%. SkyCity has shown stronger recent momentum, gaining +5% over five days and +13% over one month, although it remains down -14% over six months. Meanwhile, Sky Network Television has gained +2% over five days, +14% over one month, +10% over six months and +20% over the past year, making it the strongest longer-term performer among today’s top gainers.

THE MAIN DECLINERS
Declines were led by Ryman Healthcare (RYM, #18), which fell -3% during the session. The retirement village operator has also declined -3% over five days and -4% over the past month, while its longer-term performance remains under pressure, with the stock down -11% over six months and -21% over the past year. Gentrack (GTK, #45) also dropped -3%, extending its recent weakness with a -4% decline over five days. Despite this, the company remains up a notable +21% over the past month, although its six-month and one-year performances remain considerably weaker at -44% and -58%. Napier Port Holdings (NPH, #37) declined -2% for the day and is now down -1% over five days and -4% over one month. However, its longer-term performance remains comparatively resilient, with the stock up +1% over six months and +13% over the past year. Vulcan Steel (VSL, #31) also fell -2%, although its recent performance has been mixed rather than consistently negative, with a +2% gain over five days and a +3% increase over one month. Over the longer term, however, Vulcan remains down -14% over six months and -16% over the past year.
