If you are a senior manager in the banking industry you will no doubt be keeping an eye on what you would be worth overseas.

The following table was published on eFinancialCareers recently and shows compensation for 'director' positions around the banking world.

It seems Sydney is competitive with New York and London.

But the real money is made when you can get a job in Asia it seems - Singapore and Hong Kong.

You will likely need to speak Mandarin however, and this could be a very worthwhile investment.

Actually, the situation is 'better' than it seems - the data below is before income taxes, and those are very low in the highest paying jurisdictions and very high in the lowest paying centres.

Actually, New Zealand has low income tax levels compared with Europe and New York, and especially Australia. Our definition of 'low' however doesn't compare with Singapore or Hong Kong.

The other take-away from this data is that London and Frankfurt are playing with fire with the EU drive to limit banker compensation. New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, and even Sydney are going to be flooded with experienced expat Europeans.

The incentives are there for a major talent shift.
