Not much on offer but plenty of bidding at the latest Auckland apartment auctions

You could have been forgiven for thinking the summer selling season had come to an early end at the main Auckland apartment auctions this week, with very slim pickings on offer.

At Barfoot & Thompson's main apartment auction at their head office auction rooms in the CBD, just two apartments were on offer. They were a one bedroom unit in The Aucklander building located behind Auckland's pubic library, and a two bedroom unit in the Forte building near the University on Symonds Street.

Both attracted multiple bids. The unit in the Aucklander building was sold under the hammer, but the Forte unit was passed in for sale by negotiation.

At the same auction retail premises with an apartment on top in a building with weathertightness issues was also offered, along with a large, upmarket house with a pool in Orakei.

There was only one bidder for the Orakei house and multiple bidders for the retail property in Glendowie, but both were passed in.

Up at Ray White City Apartments there were two apartments on the Order of Sale, but the auction of one of them, a studio in the Kohura Walton building at the top end of Queen Street, was cancelled. This left a one bedroom unit with a car park in the Basque Central Building overlooking Basque Park in Eden Terrace on offer.

There were two bidders for this property and they were quite competitive with the apartment sold under the hammer.

So although there wasn't a lot to choose from this week, what was on offer attracted a reasonable amount of buyer interest and the prices achieved on what was sold were solid if not spectacular.

Details of all the properties offered at both auctions and the prices achieved on those that sold are available on our Residential Auction Results page.

I wonder what the highest bid was for that Forte apartment. At a guess, the vendors expectation is way off.

Auckland's pubic library? Sounds a bit hairy! Can't say I'd want to visit that one, when was that erected?
