The latest political poll has National on 25.9%, just a week after another poll suggested the two major parties were floundering below 30% in support.

Released on Tuesday, the RNZ-Reid Research Poll showed:

  • National - 25.9% (down 3.2 percentage points)
  • Labour - 30.8% (down 1.4 percentage points)
  • The Green Party - 14.8% (up 4.6 percentage points)
  • NZ First - 10.6% (down 1.3 percentage points)a
  • ACT - 9% (up 1.3 percentage points)
  • Opportunity - 5.5% (steady)
  • Te Pāti Māori - 2% (down 1 percentage point)

National's result is the lowest in that poll since the 2020 election, RNZ reported.

Translated to seats, it would put National (32), NZ First (13) and ACT (11) on 56 seats - not enough to take power.

Labour (37), Greens (18) and Opportunity (6) would be on 61, which is enough to government, without the help of Te Pāti Māori (2).

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon was on 17.1% for preferred PM, Labour leader Chris Hipkins was on 21.9% and NZ First leader Winston Peters was on 11.2%.

The results follow the 1News Verian Poll released last week, which had both major parties on 28%.

The Green Party was on 16%, ACT on 11%, NZFirst on 9%, Opportunity on 6% and Te Pāti Māori on 1%.

Luxon was on 19% for preferred PM and Hipkins was at 14% in that poll.

Reid Research polled 1000 eligible voters online between September 24 and October 1, with the maximum margin of error of ±3.1%-points at a 95% confidence level.

Verian polled 1004 voters by mobile and online panels between September 23-27, with a maximum sampling error approximately ±3.4%-points at the 95% confidence level.

The only good news is that the left could govern without TP Maori, but boy if you work to earn money, prepare yourself to pay a lot of taxes !!!

Most workers would be paying less tax under the left wing parties. It's asset holders that will suffer.

PM Luxon wilfully leading the race to the bottom and is yet to be tested by the unwelcome fearsome  duo of O’Brien & Tame, Gower as well, on TV before the people. Any chance National has will need to rely on their MPs winning in the electorates and ACT & NZF pulling them through which is obviously why Brash & co are advocating for exactly that.
