Labour and National have not been able to rise above 30% support in the latest 1News Verian Poll, with Opportunity pushing up to 8% and filling the Kingmaker's role.
National - 28% (down 1 percentage point)
Labour - 28%
The Green Party - 15% (down 1 percentage point)
NZ First - 10%
ACT - 10% (up 1 percentage points)
Opportunity - 8% (up 1 percentage point)
Te Pāti Māori - 0.4%
It follows another poll released this week, the Taxpayer's Union-Curia Poll showing National at 28.5%, Labour on 28.2%, but with Opportunity below the 5% threshold at 4.8%.
The 1News Poll, conducted between October 8-12, with 1007 surveyed by mobile and online panels, suggested the right bloc of National, ACT and NZ First, would not have enough seats to take power.
National (34), ACT (12) and NZ First (12) would have 58, needing 61.
Labour (34) and the Greens (18) would have only have 52 seats together. Opportunity would have (10) seats, Te Pāti Māori would have 4 and the Te Tai Tokerau Party would have one seat.
On preferred PM numbers, Christopher Luxon and Chis Hipkins were both at 20%.
Last week, the RNZ-Reid Research Poll had National at 25.9% and Labour at 30.8%.
Translated to seats, it would give the right block 58 seats. It would give Labour and the Greens 53 seats. With Opportunity, that would go to 61.
