MBIE to review its suggested pricing schedule in tender of govt banking contract and take into account return on investment for banks

By Gareth Vaughan

The Government has pushed out the timeframe for the issue of a request for proposals from banks keen to bid for the core Crown banking contract, which is held by Westpac and is being put out to a competitive tender for the first time since the 1980s.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) had previously indicated a request for proposal could be issued either in September or this month. However, MBIE now says it's aiming to issue a request for proposal in early 2014. MBIE also says it'll review its suggested pricing schedule and take into account the likely return on investment for banks.

MBIE says its next step will be to get a "complete and accurate picture" of banking services across government. It will work with government agencies and "other key stakeholders" on this.
