WHAT THE NZX 50 INDEX IS DOING
The NZX50 is trading up +0.3%, extending its positive run despite mixed performances among the index's larger companies. The benchmark is now up +0.2% over the past five trading days, +1.3% over the past month, +2.9% over the past six months and +7.7% over the past year.
THE MAIN GAINERS
There were 58 gainers, led by Tourism Holdings (THL, #40), which rose +3% to extend its six-month gain to +16% and its one-year return to +37%. Gentrack (GTK, #47) also climbed +3%, despite remaining down -1% over the past five days, -7% over the past month, -50% over six months and -66% over the past year. Kathmandu (KMD, #50) gained +2%, lifting its five-day performance to +7%, although it remains down -1% over the past month, -54% over six months and -52% over the past year. Stride Property Group (SPG, #38) added +2%, with the stock up +5% over the past month while remaining down -2% over five days, -4% over six months and -4% over the past year.

THE MAIN DECLINERS
There were 26 decliners, with Fletcher Building (FBU, #13) leading the losses after falling -3%, taking its five-day decline to -3%, although the stock remains up +7% over the past month and +19% over the past year. a2 Milk (ATM, #8) slipped -1%, leaving it down -1% over five days, -8% over the past month, -15% over six months and -5% over the past year. Vulcan Steel (VSL, #31) eased -1%, extending declines to -6% over five days, -3% over the past month, -23% over six months and -7% over the past year. SkyCity Entertainment (SKC, #37) also fell -1%, with the casino operator down -4% over five days and -31% over six months, although it remains up +14% over the past month.

KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Taiko Critical Minerals (TCM) reported continued progress on its Barrytown Critical Minerals Project, highlighting an initial JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate for the Canoe Creek deposit, updating its overall Barrytown resource base, completing the acquisition of the 304-hectare Barrytown Farms, and lodging its Fast Track resource consent application. Chairman Phil Thick said the milestones, alongside strong investor support since the company's NZX listing, have increased confidence ahead of a planned major project capital raising later this year.
Mainfreight (MFT, #7) shareholders approved the sole resolution at the company's 2026 Annual Meeting, authorising the Board to fix the fees and expenses of the auditor. The resolution was passed by a poll with 96.88% of votes in favour and 3.12% against, with 15,280 abstentions.
Michael Hill International (MHJ) has upgraded the market on its FY26 trading performance, reporting preliminary group sales of $654.7 mln, up +2.0% year-on-year, with same-store sales increasing +3.0% across all markets. The jewellery retailer expects comparable EBIT of $22.0 mln to $24.0 mln, representing growth of 44% to 57% on FY25, driven by strong sales, stable margins and disciplined cost management. CEO Jonathan Waecker said the company enters FY27 with a simplified business, clear strategy and confidence in future growth ahead of its full-year results at the end of August.
