90 seconds at 9 am: QV says house prices falling; Survey sees further falls; Mortgagee sales up; US money printing talk grows

Bernard Hickey details the key news over the weekend in 90 seconds at 9 am in association with BNZ, including news from Quotable Value's July report that house prices are falling across the country.

QV said buyers appeared to have pulled back and were waiting for prices to fall further.

Prices fell most in provincial areas, although Auckland saw some declines too.

Meanwhile, ASB's Housing Confidence survey showed price expectations had fallen.

Also, Terralink reported mortgagee sales rose to 264 in June  May or 6% 5% of all sales from 246 or 5% 4.5% of all sales in May April.//(Month and amount corrected)

Meanwhile, US non-farm payrolls fell 131,000 in July, double economic forecasts.

The US dollar fell in anticipation that the US Federal Reserve will embark on a second round of money printing known as QE II (Quantitative Easing) as early as Wednesday morning our time.

The New Zealand dollar rose, therefore, against the US dollar to be around 73.2 USc in early trade.
