Fletcher Building hopes for a more extensive redevelopment of the former Three Kings quarry site and surrounding area

Fletcher Residential has lodged two private plan change applications for the redevelopment of its Three Kings quarry site in Auckland.

Fletcher plans to turn the 15.2 ha site at the southern end of Mt Eden Rd into a new housing precinct, with a mix of 2-3 storey terrace houses, 3-4 storey apartment blocks and a 10 level apartment complex that would cascade down the sides of the quarry.

Both options lodged with Auckland Council  involve developing the same amount and styles of housing, but one would be restricted to the 15.2 ha of land that the company owns, and the other would exchange some land for surrounding Crown land, to create an integrated residential and recreational development.

Fletcher says the second option is its most preferred and that would link the development to the nearby Three Kings shopping centre and the historic Three Kings sports oval.

As well as providing housing, the second option would create a town square, two sports fields, a wetland terrace and recreational parkland for use by residents and the surrounding community, Fletcher said.
