Onehunga house sets a new price record for the area of almost $2.4 million
This old Onehunga mansion sold for $2,378,500.

The sale of an old mansion in the Auckland suburb of Onehunga for $2,378,500 appears to have set a new price record for the area.

A unique feature of the two storey villa at 125 Victoria St, Onehunga was its French inspired decor featuring painted panels of classical scenes that were reminiscent of a French chateau (see interior photo below).

While that may not have appealed to everyone, the property still had plenty to recommend it, with a floor area of 350 square metres, five bedrooms and a separate double garage with a self contained loft apartment above it.

The house was set on a 2,227 square metre section with a swimming pool.

A search of previous sales in the area returned no results for sales above $2 million and the agent who sold the property, Gaewyn Goodwin of Bayleys Remuera, said although there had been other sales at around that price, they had been multiple properties bundled up into a single sale.

It had a council rating valuation of $2 million.

It is understood the new owners do not intend to retain the ornate interior decor of the Onehunga mansion (see below).

Philistines!.

Can I have the panels please. ??. Or at least donate them to a museum.

Heritage buildings need to be preserved. Not gutted.

I am gutted.!

How about you.?

Heritage house or not, the interior is creepy.  Like something in "What we do in the shadows"

I would chuck it in the skip as well

Agree. They're the first thing I would rip out if I was the new owner.

You can keep it Heritage without having it full of  the type of art favoured by 17th Century french homosexuals.

A lot more interesting than yet more bland beige renovation favoured by 21st century hetrosexuals and homosexuals who believe The Block is the height of sophistication and creativity.
