Auckland will move to Covid-19 Alert Level 1 at 11.59pm on Wednesday.
Cabinet made the decision on Monday.
Covid-19 modeller of Te Pūnaha Matatini, Shaun Hendy, said his data showed there was a 95% chance Covid-19 had been eliminated from the community.
Only six of the 40 active cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand are in the community. No one is battling Covid-19 in hospital.
The last time a new case was reported in the community was on September 24.
Cabinet decided not to make mask-wearing mandatory on public transport under Level 1.
Businesses are still required to display QR codes. People are being encouraged to continue using the tracer app (usage has fallen) and being cautious by getting tested, staying home when sick, washing hands, etc.
Laboratories processed 2,834 tests on Sunday.

agreed the not telling the truth over the non testing at the borders was very disappointing and blurring of why and who was told, what was supposed to happen against what DHB's were doing has never been resolved.
i am glad they have finally tightened up on air crew as well
