Commodity prices took off overnight as investors looked to get out of the US dollar. The gold price hit a new record high above US$1,420 an ounce as other commodity prices soared.

China's central bank unexpectedly raised one year bill yields at its latest auction, fuelling expectations another rate rise is on the way, Reuters reports.

We are in Wellington today for the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's Financial Stability report this morning, while RBNZ governor Alan Bollard will appear before parliament's Finance and expenditure committee at noon today.
