Here are the key changes to know about in the New Zealand equity market; NZX50 edges lower despite gains for Stride Property, AirNZ, Sanford and Precinct Properties; Mainfreight, SkyCity casino, Serko, and Napier Port are the main decliners

Here are the key things you need to know about in the NZX markets over the past 24 hours. Changes are as at 3:00 pm and may change when the market closes at 4:45 pm.

WHAT THE NZX 50 INDEX IS DOING
The NZX50 is down -0.1% today, up +0.2% over the past five trading days and up +1.0% over the past month. The index has gained +2.2% over the past six months and is up +6.4% over the past year. The market shift sat negative, with 43 decliners compared to 33 gainers.

THE MAIN GAINERS
Among the gainers, Stride Property Group (SPG, #38) rose +3%, although it remained down -3% over the past five trading days and -6% over both the past month and six months, while it was down -13% year-on-year. Air New Zealand (AIR, #24) added +1%, taking its five-day gain to +1%, although the stock was down -10% over the past month, -30% over six months and -36% year-on-year. Sanford (SAN, #39) gained +1%, extending its five-day increase to +2% and leaving it +1% higher over the past month, while it remained down -14% over six months but up +20% year-on-year. Precinct Properties (PCT, #20) rose +1%, although it was down -1% over the past five trading days, -6% over the past month and -8% over six months, with the stock down -24% year-on-year.

THE MAIN DECLINERS
Among the decliners, Mainfreight (MFT, #7) fell -2%, extending its decline over the past five trading days to -2% and its monthly decline to -5%, although it remained up +4% over both the past six months and year-on-year. SkyCity Entertainment (SKC, #37) declined -2%, taking its five-day loss to -4%, while it was up +2% over the past month but down -24% over six months and -10% year-on-year. Serko (SKO, #49) fell -1%, although it remained +1% higher over the past five trading days, while it was down -3% over the past month, -24% over six months and -42% year-on-year. Napier Port Holdings (NPH, #36) decreased -1%, extending its five-day decline to -1% and its monthly decline to -2%, while it was down -5% over six months but remained 11% higher year-on-year.

KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS
August was a stronger month for the NZX (NZX, #45), with the NZX 50 Gross Index rising +7.6% year-on-year, while the Capital Index increased +4.3% and the Portfolio Index gained +4.6%. Equity market activity also increased, with total equity trades almost doubling year-on-year to 1.49 million, up +98.7%, while equity value traded rose +1.7% to $2.99 bln. The average on-market trade size fell -38.7% to $1,448, however, suggesting the sharp increase in trading activity was driven by a greater number of smaller transactions. 

Kathmandu Brands (KMD, #50) will release its audited FY26 results for the 12 months ended 31 July 2026 on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.
