KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS
NZME has received a formal Crown offer to renew its commercial radio spectrum licences for 20 years from the 3rd of April 2031, at a total cost of $11.2 mln. Payments will be made in advance across four five-year periods, reducing the immediate cash flow impact compared with the 2011 renewal, which required a single upfront payment for the full term. The structure also allows NZME to relinquish individual AM and FM licences without paying for future periods, providing flexibility to adjust its frequency portfolio as listening habits change. The $11.2 mln price is in line with the company’s expectations and reflects the Crown’s $29 mln national valuation of commercial licences announced in January 2026. NZME has six months to accept the offer, with the first payment due in 2030.
South Port New Zealand (SPN) reported record results for FY26, with after-tax profit rising +21.0% to $16.11 mln and revenue increasing +14% to $71.8 mln. Normalised net profit after tax rose +16.2% to $16.14 mln, while cargo volumes increased +11.5% to a record 3.9 million tonnes and container throughput reached an all-time high of 62,000 TEU. Volumes through Tiwai Wharf rose +16.1% to 0.94 million tonnes. The company declared a final dividend of 20.5 cents per share, taking the full-year dividend to 29.0 cents. Capital investment increased to support container terminal expansion, additional warehousing and infrastructure upgrades, while South Port plans to recruit around 21 additional staff over the next 12 to 18 months. Momentum has continued into FY27, with first-quarter cargo volumes to 30 September rising 13% year-on-year to 1 million tonnes. At the annual shareholders’ meeting, Nicola Greer will succeed Philip Cory-Wright as chair following his retirement after 16 years on the board, including three years as chair.
