Treasury's Gabriel Makhlouf accepts invitation from RBNZ's Adrian Orr to 'deepen his understanding of the process leading into a monetary policy decision'

The Reserve Bank says Secretary to the Treasury Gabriel Makhlouf has been invited and accepted an invitation to attend monetary policy deliberation and decision meetings as an observer from the end of October.

Reserve Bank Governor Adrian Orr invited Makhlouf to "deepen Mr Makhlouf’s understanding of the process leading into a monetary policy decision," the Reserve Bank says, ahead of the introduction of a new monetary policy framework.

"This invitation comes ahead of the proposed creation of a formal Treasury observer position in the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (Monetary Policy) Amendment Bill. This Bill is currently being considered by the Finance and Expenditure [Select] Committee," the Reserve Bank says.

The invitation to Makhlouf can be viewed here, and Makhlouf's response can be viewed here.
