Prices started at $581,000 at Bayleys Auckland auctions last week, while a house on a lifestyle block in Canterbury went for $515,000: see the full results from around the country

A refurbished 1930s-era brick and tile cutie (pictured) on the Three Kings/Mt Roskill border in Auckland sold for $1.635 million when it was auctioned by Bayleys last week, although the price probably had more to do with the 802 square metre section and its subdivision potential than the house itself.

Other highlights from Bayleys auction rooms from around the country last week were a three bedroom house at Kelston in west Auckland that went for $650,000, a 1920s house near Western Springs that fetched $1.25 million and something that's increasingly rare these days, a house on the North Shore (at Browns Bay) that sold for under $1 million, a two bedroom house at Huia that sold for $581,000, a two storeyed villa near Cheltenham Beach that went for $1.875 million and a two bedroom unit at Mellons Bay in the eastern suburbs that fetched $670,000.

Down the line, one Hamilton home overlooking the Waikato River went for $842,000 while another fetched $1.25 million, while prices at the Tauranga auctions started at $591,000 and a character home on a lifestyle block north of Rangiora sold under the hammer for $515,000.

Mt Roskill Cutie - $1.635 million for 800 square metres of land ?????????????????
35 Duke Street, Mt Roskill

How quickly we forget - Duke Street - a street of brothels and gambling dens

November 2012 - interest.co.nz
I stand on the top of Mt Roskill from where I can see all the cones, the Maori forts, Mt Albert, Mt Eden, One Tree Hill, Three Kings and The Manukau. You didn't need Chinese interpreters. There were no brothels or gambling dens then.

That shrub looks like a black wattle, it's invasive, probably have to cut it down for compliance reasons.

... spread the word that it's a hallucinogenic ... then sell little bags of its leaves for $ 50 a shot !

Then , the timber from the tree could be used to repair the rotten floorboards in the $ 1.635 million shack ..

You don't have to take it lying down, though some people will import anything for money.

Me, I think it is quite sad...no need to travel , for some, all the red light districts and gangs are turning up on our doorstep.

Maybe someone gave them the Green Light....must have been someone with a vested interest.

I think that is called corruption in any other persons language... But we have to be careful not to annoy anyone and name names. The returns and fees must be generous....So probably allied to the Real Estate industry and all those towering above us.
